GEOTag – Day of Biodiversity 2025
“The diversity in the permanent settlement area in Bad Kleinkirchheim” – that was the Geotag of Biodiversity 2025
This year, the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve again hosted the GEO Day of Biodiversity. Under the motto “Only what we know will we also protect and care for,” about 40 biodiversity experts searched the permanent settlement area of Bad Kleinkirchheim and St. Oswald. This traditional cultural landscape offers a rich variety of different habitats (extensive slope meadows, ravine forests, field copses, dolomite rock walls and scree, etc.). Numerous animal and plant species were surveyed using binoculars, nets, insect vacuums, light traps, and more. After 24 hours of meticulous fieldwork, a preliminary review identified over 620 species, which was a very positive surprise given the relatively small project area.
