Experiencing nature for everyone – that’s the motto!
EVERYONE wants to experience nature – but not everyone wants to climb a summit in order to do so! The themed trails along the Nockalm Road invite you to enjoy nature and linger for a while.
The Carinthian Nature Experience Consortium, in which the Nockberge Biosphere Reserve is also involved, has initiated the “Nature Experience for ALL” project to enable families with pushchairs, people with disabilities and also frail people who can experience nature only to a limited extent, to access this unique natural experience. As part of this project, eleven attractive, barrier-free nature experiences are being created in protected areas across Carinthia, and programmes are being developed which take people with and without disabilities to special places in Carinthian nature under professional guidance.
In order to ensure a barrier-free overall experience, the first hotels, campsites and catering establishments throughout Carinthia have also been ÖZIV-certified.
Along this unique trail, numerous educational and adventure facilities such as the Zechneralm Alpine Pasture Museum and the Glockenhütte Nature Information Centre invite you to linger and find out more. Unfortunately, both exhibitions are getting on in years and do not meet today’s standards and expectations of visitors, neither in terms of pedagogy nor appearance, and the content is no longer up to date.
Therefore, as part of the project, the two existing exhibitions (Glockenhütte and Zechneralm) will be adapted and updated, and a marmot trail will be built at the Zechneralm along the Nockalm Road.
Path of the elements
The Path of the Elements is a 1.5-kilometre circular trail with stone circles featuring twelve exercises that provide strength and tranquillity. The circle symbolises the cycle of life, momentum and energy. The exercises involve the elements and the human senses.
Here you can escape from everyday life and recharge your batteries with easy exercises in harmony with nature.
Accessibility without limits
Silva Magica
In order to offer families with pushchairs, people with disabilities and frail people a special nature experience, the exhibition rooms and the Silva Magica circular trail on the Grundalm have been designed to be barrier-free. Appropriate car parking spaces and sanitary facilities are available.
Speech codes on the boards along the circular route enable visually impaired people to experience the circular route acoustically. Naturally, everything is ÖZIV-certified.
Nature trail
Windebensee
A beautiful, approx. 600 m long nature trail leads from the Windebensee car park around the mountain lake at approx. 1,900 m above sea level. On the scenic circular trail, the topic of “Alpine biocoenoses” is presented with numerous information boards for those interested. There are numerous Swiss stone pines in the neighbouring forests.
